A 2025 Ngā Poutama Matawhenua session with Keith Holswich describing the Ngāti Rāhiri experience of building a grassroots GIS. The current Kōrero ā-Mahere StoryMaps Resource Kete brings together Aotearoa and Indigenous StoryMap examples, tools, tutorials and data sources. It is useful for communications teams, planners and GIS practitioners who need to combine maps, photos, narrative and 3D material rather than publish a bare web map.

Te Mana Raraunga's Ngahuru Pōtiki 2023 Virtual Wānanga presentation covers Māori Data Sovereignty and the Aotearoa research-data landscape.
This is useful to iwi data leads, researchers and GIS practitioners who want to understand spatial work as part of a much wider data ecosystem rather than as a standalone mapping problem.

The 2026 Ngā Poutama AI Haumaru, AI Motuhake session is indexed through the Ngā Poutama programme page. Use the Local AI section for the current desktop workflow and prompts.
For Treaty researchers, heritage teams and people working through large report collections, the practical value is document search, candidate ingoa wāhi extraction and source-linked tables rather than treating model output as source evidence.
Indigenous Mapping Wānanga
Indigenous Mapping Waananga 2018 provides historical context for the Māori and Indigenous mapping training network that preceded the current Ngā Poutama programme. The 2017 wānanga is documented in He Whare Hangarau Māori.
This history matters for people building capability programmes: Māori GIS training in Aotearoa has been a recurring community of practice, not a new idea created by the latest software release.
