New Zealand Gazette is the official Government newspaper and journal of constitutional record, published since 1841.

For spatial research, Land Notices are particularly useful, along with notices under specific Acts and New Zealand Geographic Board naming decisions.

Search methods​

The current service supports:

  • page number for notices before 20 October 2014
  • unique notice number for later notices

Old research references often cite Gazette year/page; newer citations use notice IDs.

From notice to map​

Transcribe the legal description exactly, then search appellation/title/parcel/survey records. A Gazette notice can identify the legal action while the GIS shows the current cadastral framework.
