LINZ Data Service
LINZ Data Service is the main national delivery platform for many Toitū Te Whenua datasets. Use the dataset page first: it contains the current title, description, licence, update information, attributes, revisions and service/download options.
Download or connect?
Choose a file download when you need a fixed snapshot, offline work, a manageable study area or reproducible archive. Choose a live service when you need current data repeatedly or want to avoid maintaining a local national copy.
Main service patterns
- WFS for raw vector/tabular features
- WMTS/XYZ for tiled map imagery
- Changeset API for incremental vector updates
- Query API for direct programmatic queries
- CS-W for metadata discovery
- ArcGIS REST for selected key datasets
All LDS data web services require an LDS API key. Basemaps use their own access model; see LINZ Basemaps.
Read the metadata before the API URL
The service only transports the dataset. It does not tell you whether a parcel, title, address, place-name or topographic layer answers your research question. Read the dataset profile and Authoritative for what? first.
