Find a Treaty settlement
Te Tari Whakatau maintains a current Find a Treaty settlement index with links to settlement pages and documents.
A settlement page can contain:
- Deed of Settlement
- general matters schedules
- property redress schedules
- document schedules
- attachments/map plans
- deed amendments
- summary
- supporting/ratification or historical documents
Download the attachments
For GIS, the attachment/property-redress documents often matter more than the narrative deed because they contain mapped properties, statutory areas, RFR material or plan references.
Check amendments
A settlement can later have deeds to amend or legislative changes. Do not assume the first signed deed PDF is the only current document.
Use current agency names
Older source documents will refer to the Office of Treaty Settlements or Te Arawhiti. The current public settlement site is Te Tari Whakatau. Keep historic agency names when citing the old document itself.
