Settlement legislation as spatial evidence
The enacted settlement legislation is the authoritative legal source for statutory mechanisms created by the Act. It often includes schedules listing statutory/overlay/redress areas and sections governing official names, RFR rights and title registration.
Use New Zealand Legislation and open the current latest version of the Act, not a bill, unless the research specifically concerns the legislative process before enactment.

Within a settlement Act try:
- statutory acknowledgement
- statutory area
- overlay classification
- geographic name
- cultural redress property
- RFR land
- record of title
- licensed land
- schedule
Bills versus Acts
A current bill can show proposed spatial redress before settlement legislation is enacted. Label it Bill/proposed and do not map proposed RFR/redress as existing law.
Plans may remain in the deed
Acts often refer back to deed plans or schedules. Keep legislation and deed attachments together in the source chain.
